Paris-Nice (4) - Doubey : « Ready for the hills »

Paris-Nice (4) - Doubey : « Ready for the hills »

An individual time trial constituted the transition between the open fields and the hills. this Wednesday in Paris-Nice (2.WT, 8-15/03). The 15.1 kilometers around Saint-Amand-Montrond didn't offer any breathing space, with two climbs in the first part. The Danish rider Soren Kragh Andersen took the victory, just ahead of German Maximilian Schachmann, who increased his race lead.  The riders of Circus-Wanty Gobert-Tormans finished where they belong, with Xandro Meurisse in 44th position, just under 20 minutes in 19:59. Fabien Doubey finished the time  trial in 20:08 and is now 22nd in the provisional general classification. On Thursday, the longest stage of Paris-Nice will bring the peloton from Gannat to Côte-Saint-André, in Isère.

Fabien Doubey :

« I started my time trial well, on the dynamic first part, a course suiting me well. By starting very fast, I tried to gain as many seconds as possible. But I was in troubles in the second part. It's still good result for me. I didn't really work for time trialling, by adapting my position or by regularly training on the bike like the specialists do. I maybe should invest more in this discipline in order to limit the damage, but I stay satisfied about my performance. My feeling is still excellent. On Thursday a long and rough day is awaiting us. Then we're heading to three hilly stages, suiting me better than the war in the crosswinds! »
