Tour de l'Ain (1): "A high entrance rhythm"

Tour de l'Ain (1): "A high entrance rhythm"

The 140 kilometer long profile of the first stage of the Tour de l’Ain (2.1, 7-9) didn’t contain many difficulties, but the sloping final kilometers thwarted the sprinter’s party. The peloton splitted in different parts under the impulse of Primoz Roglic. The champion of Slovenia was defeated by Andrea Baglioli on the finish line. Simone Petilli, Odd Eiking en Thomas Degand finished in the first group. A 140 kilometer mountain stage between Lagnieu and Lélex Monts-Jura is on the programme on Saturday.

Jean-Marc Rossignon (sports director):

« The rhythm was high all day, with the World Tour teams lead by Ineos and Team Jumbo-Visma. On paper, the stage was flat and rather easy to start the tour with. But in the end, the course was hard, with some difficulties and a high pace. The peloton exploded in the final, and only Petilli, Eiking and Degand were able to follow. After the Route d’Occitanie, the Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenge and the transfers, some are getting tired. We’ll see what the mountain stage towards Lélex will bring tomorrow! »
