TDF (4) : Van Keirsbulck so close to stage victory, 3 WGG riders top 10

In the fourth stage of Tour de France (2.WT) Guillaume Van Keirsbulck did an amazing performance. Van Keirsbulck accelerated right from the start with Claeys, Perez and Cousin. For more than 190 kilometers GVK rode in the front of the race. The lead of the break reached a maximum of 8 minutes and in the final they fought against the peloton for the stage victory.

At less than 2 kilometers from the finish Van Keirsbulck did an ultimate acceleration to the stage victory. Unfortunately, he was caught 900 meters from the finish by the peloton in which Andrea Pasqualon (6th), Dion Smith (9th) and Timothy Dupont (10th) sprinted top 10. An incredible day for Wanty-Groupe Gobert, who wins the team classification for the second time and keeps the polka dot jersey around Dion Smith's shoulders.

Guillaume Van Keirsbulck:

"It was a very difficult day, sometimes it had to go full on the climbs. Halfway race we had more than 7 minutes advantage on the peloton,. Then we saved ourselves a little and the last 40 kilometers we had to go full gas. We started riding at full speed and I did not expect the peloton to close the gap so quickly. "

"In the end I did everything I could for the stage victory, but I was caught in the last 900 meters. In the final phase the wind was at a disadvantage. I did not try to accelerate earlier because of that. If the finish was one kilometer earlier I would have won, but unfortunately that was not the case. "

"I hope the peloton will feel these efforts. Cousin wins the combativity? Well, he is French. And tonight the Belgians will win!"
