Scheldeprijs - Dupont : "Disappointed by the result, happy with the shape"

The Scheldeprijs (1.HC, 10/04) started this year again from Terneuzen (Netherlands) heading to Schoten (Belgium) through Zeeland. Wind provoked a lot of echelons from the start. Unfortunately Wesley Kreder crashed and could never come back in the bunch, nor Tom Devriendt or Alfdan De Decker did. It was a really fast day and the peloton was preparing a massive sprint when Frederik Backaert and Pieter Vanspeybrouck crashed in the last lap. Andrea Pasqualon was the last man to pilot Timothy Dupont. Our Belgian sprinter takes the 14th position, behind winner Fabio Jakobsen.

Timothy Dupont :

« I was in the second group after Wesley Kreder’s crash but I did never panic. I knew we were a strong group and we would come back. In the final I had a good feeling but I got too fast in the wind. I never could follow the favorites’ wheels and I got stuck in the sprint. I am disappointed by the result but I am confident for Paris-Roubaix. My feeling and shape are good. I am looking forward to this Thursday’s recon. »
