Romandie (4) - Martin : "I have no regrets"

Romandie (4) - Martin : "I have no regrets"

Unfavorable weather in the first climbs of the fourth stage of Tour de Romandie (2.UWT) obliged the race organization in the morning to decide to shorten the stage. The start of the race was given in the early afternoon in Lucens, from where the peloton plunged to the edges of lake Leman before taking on the final climb to Torgon. Andrea Pasqualon was present in the good breakaway and helped Guillaume Martin with a last relay. The French climber accompanied the group of favorites until the last slopes and finished in 23rd place at 26 seconds. In this way Martin climbs to the 14th position in the provisional general classification, one day ahead of the final time trial in Geneva.

Guillaume Martin :

« This morning, at the start, I didn't want to have any regrets, so I raced willing to take risks and daring to attack. Which I did in the final climb, first halfway through the climb and later with 1.5 kilometers of the top. Which unfortunately costed me my place in the first group. I went into the red and the slopes continued after the top of the GPM until the finish line. But I can't have regrets, because it was not my intention to follow and wait until the final time trial. »

« The conditions were not favorable for me. First, the rain paralyzed me a bit. Further, I prefer a repetition of climbs, so the shortened course didn't suit me. And the final climb was not in my favor. Unless this I had a good feeling and I was able to attack which is encouraging. The final time trial on Sunday is for specialists, I will start without pressure. It will be a good exercise to progress in this discipline. »
