Rhône-Alpes (4): Minnaard confirms again with top 10

Rhône-Alpes (4): Minnaard confirms again with top 10

A strong wind was added to a daily portion of rain in the fourth and last stage of Rhône-Alpes Isère Tour (UCI 2.2).  172 kilometers between Saint-Maurice-l'Exil and Charvieu-Chavaneux were covered. A fast start and long climbs in the first race half made this last stage difficult for a lot of riders. A small peloton with Marco Minnaard tackled three final laps of 15 kilometers on a flat course. Six riders were able to break away in the final kilometers and sprint for the stage win. Marco Minnaard finished in front of the peloton on 12th place. He concludes the French stage race in 12th position in the general classification.

Marco Minnaard:

« I was very motivated to go back to the Rhône-Alpes Isère Tour remembering my win in 2017, although I was struggling to find a good feeling on the bike over the last couple of weeks. My good results this week really please me! »

« The time gap with the top three in the general classification was big, because of the four minute advantage of the breakaway in the first stage. I played all or nothing with an attack at 50 kilometers from the finish in stage three. My group stayed ahead, but unfortunately we could not gain enough advantage on the leaders in the classification to threaten their podium positions. I return back home with a good feeling and I am looking forward to my next races! »
