Rhône-Alpes (1+2): top 10 for Minnaard

Rhône-Alpes (1+2): top 10 for Minnaard

It was raining cats and dogs during the first stage of Rhône-Alpes Isère Tour (UCI 2.2). A trio of riders didn't care about the weather circumstances and hilly course and escaped with 123 kilometers to go. Later, they were accompanied by Claudio Imhof. A strong breakaway and a lack of organization in the peloton resulted in a battle for the stage win between three early breakaway riders and an almost four minute gap to the peloton. Marco Minnaard was the first Wanty-Gobert rider on place 22.

The first half of the second stage of Rhône-Alpes Isère Tour (UCI2.2) with start next to the airport of Saint-Exupéry was known for ongoing breakaway attempts, unsuccessful due to the high pace. Eventually, a quartet managed to escape and create a gap. The Dutch Sjoerd Bax turned out to be the strongest man in the breakaway and, after dropping one by one his breakaway companions, managed to stay ahead of the peloton and win solo. Marco Minnaard became 9th in a sprint with a halved peloton.
