Offensive Minnaard in Romandie

Offensive Minnaard in Romandie

The first stage of Tour de Romandie (25-30/04, 2.WT) between Aigle and Champéry (173km) again took place in cold and wet circumstances. Marco Minnaard went into the offensive right after the start. He was part of the break of the day for almost 165km. First the group contained six riders, but on the various Suisse climbs the number was reduced to four riders. Our 28 year old Dutch rider was caught on the final climb to Champéry with less than 10km to go. The stage win went to Michael Albasini, who was the fastest in a reduced bunch sprint of almost 60 riders. Thomas Degand (39th) and Guillaume Martin (53rd) were able to hang on in the first group and finished in the same time as winner Albasini. Tomorrow a hilly 160km long stage between Champéry and Bulle is on the program.
