Occitanie (3): Top 20 for Petilli in the heart of the Pyrenees

The Queen stage at the Route d’Occitanie (2.1, 1-4/08) had three Giants of the Pyrenees in store for the peloton this Monday. Eight leaders passed the tops of the Port de Balès and the Col de Peyresourde first, but the last survivors were overtaken one by one by the chasing Team INEOS during the final climb of 11 kilometer. Favorite Egan Bernal delivered by defeating his teammate Pavel Sivakov by 10 seconds. For Circus-Wanty Gobert-Tormans, Simone Petilli was the first on top of the Col de Beyrède, 2:38 minutes behind the stage winner. The Italian climber is also on 19th place in the provisional general classification, one day ahead of the final stage of 195km with a difficult final towards Rocamadour.

Simone Petilli:

« The level in this Route d’Occitanie is high and I’m happy to have the opportunity to restart my season here. The team supported me well in this queen stage with over 4000 meters of climbing. I felt good and gave all I have, which is satisfying. However, I was hoping for a better result. I want to continue improving my good condition during the next few days. »
