Luxemburg (3): Pasqualon sprints to 3rd place

It was waiting until the final 40 kilometer with three categorized climbs in the third stage of the Skoda Tour de Luxembourg (2.HC) before real action started. Heavy rainfall was a sign for the peloton to start a battle for the stage win. The three members of the early breakaway were caught and new attacks, often with Kevin Van Melsen, followed each other.

Finally, a breakaway duo made for a very exciting final. Eduard Michael Grosu en Andrea Pasqualon came very close to the victory in a sprint with a big group, but they didn't manage to catch the last escapee Pieter Weening. Pasqualon finished 3rd and moves to 6th place in the provisional general classification. He won, together with Aimé De Gendt, some bonification seconds earlier during the stage. The Belgian rider climbs to 3rd position in the provisional general classification and becomes leader in the young riders classification.

Aimé De Gendt:

« Today we were able to show that we have a strong team here in the Tour de Luxembourg. We try each day to finish well with several riders, in order to have more cards to play in the last stage on Sunday. We take this race one day at a time, but of course it is my aim to stay in a good position in the general classification together with Andrea Pasqualon, and to keep the young rider's jersey which I conquered today in a bonification sprint. »
