Andrea Pasqualon was selected by Italian national coach Davide Cassani to represent his country at the European Road Championships in Alkmaar in the Netherlands this Sunday. The sprinter proved with podium spots in the Tour of Luxembourg and the Gippingen GP and excellent performances in the Tour de France that he has the abilities to help Italian leaders Elia Viviani and Matteo Trentin towards the jersey with stars. The Wanty-Gobert rider wore the azure jersey with Italian stripes before, but this time will be his first time at the start of an international championship. Next to Andrea Pasqualon, the Italian leaders duo will be surrounded by Davide Ballerini, winner of the European Games, Davide Cimolai, Simone Consonni, Salvatore Puccio and Fabio Sabatini.
« I feel ready for my next big goal, after a successful Tour de France. I'm very happy to be selected for this strong Italian team. The team consists of good riders for both a bunch sprint and a race on cobbles and through the wind. I'll be an important helper for leaders Elia Viviani and Matteo Trentin. All three of us feel good after the Tour de France, but also our other teammates are in good form. We are ready to defend Matteo Trentin's title! Afterwards, I will join Wanty-Gobert for Artctic Race of Norway. »
