Dauphiné (2) : Collective victory

Dauphiné (2) : Collective victory

The second stage in Critérium du Dauphiné (2.WT, 04-11/06) finished in a bunch sprint in the streets of Arlanc. The stage was animated by a break of four riders but everything came back together with 5km to go. The approach to the sprint was nervous, but luckily without incidents. Arnaud Demare was the fastest, Pieter Vanspeybrouck (12th) and Dion Smith (14th) finished top 15. Thanks to a 23rd spot of Frederik Backaert, Wanty-Groupe Gobert won the team classification of the day. In the GC Guillaume Martin advances to 14th position.

Pieter Vanspeybrouck :

« Guillaume Van Keirsbulck guided me well between the 3rd and 2nd kilometer, but the route was quite broad and some teams were able to pass us again on both sides. It was a chaotic sprint. I lost some places and had to come back from far. A top 10 was possible if I would have been in a better position. A 12th spot isn't bad, but it could have been better! I feel good in Dauphiné. I am able to perform when the road goes up. I want to distinguish myself again in the sprint over the next days and enter top 10. »
