Bessèges (3): Peloton with Devriendt (7th) surprised by the early breakaway

The third stage at the Etoile de Bessèges (7/02, 2.1) was ridden in memory of Raymond Poulidor. An early breakaway composed of four riders was formed at the start of the race around Bessèges. The peloton only reacted when the gap to the escapees increased to 9 minutes. The advantage skimmed towards the final, but the peloton came too late. Dries De Bondt defeated his breakaway companion Georg Zimmerman in a sprint, 2 seconds before the sprinting peloton. Tom Devriendt finished again in the forefront of the bunch, in 7th position. The last road race is planned on Saturday between Pont du Gard and Mont Bouquet, before the final time trial on Sunday.
