Hilaire Van der Schueren : "We can start planning our summer"

The UCI World Tour calendar, revisited after the COVID-19 crisis, was unveiled this Tuesday by the international authorities. The principal spring classics found a place in autumn, creating an intense end of the season, with a first participation in the five Monuments for Circus-Wanty Gobert-Tormans. The restart of the World Tour competition will take place 1st of August 2020, if the sanitary conditions permit it, on the occasion of the Strade Bianche. Our team will discover this Italian classic for the first time, just like Milan - San Remo one week later. The other monuments will take place in October, starting with the Ardennes classics (Liège-Bastogne-Liège, 4/10) followed by the Tour of Flanders (18/10), Paris-Roubaix (25/10) and concluded by Il Lombardia on October 31st.

This new international programme offers new perspectives for Circus-Wanty Gobert-Tormans. Thanks to its statute of second best Pro Continental team in the 2019 ranking, the Belgian team will receive an invitation for all one day events, and also for the Critérium du Dauphiné for which the team was invited by ASO in January. Sports director Hilaire Van der Schueren can start planning the rest of the season, even if the full calendar, including the events of the Europe Tour, won't be unveiled before May 20th.

Hilaire Van der Schueren :

" The new UCI World Tour calendar is very attractive and offers the possibility to begin planning a very intense period starting in August. After the Italian classics, our classic riders will prepare the Flemish races and Paris-Roubaix at the Binck Bank Tour. The focus of the programme of the climbers will be on the Critérium du Dauphiné, the Ardennes classics and the Tour of Lombardia. "

" But I'm hoping for an earlier restart of the competition. I'm looking forward to discover the full calendar, with the Belgian and international UCI races, hopefully starting in July."
