The International Cycling Union confirmed this Wednesday the registrated teams in the UCI World Tour for season 2021. The registration of team Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux for the World Tour was validated, after ten seasons on a Professional Continental level. Want You Cycling took over the structure Continuum Sports in September, in order to continue the adventure of CCC Team (ex-BMC Racing Team) directed by Gavin Chilcott and Jim Ochowicz.
The project, which was taken over by Jean-François Bourlart in 2001 when it was still the VC Ath, reached the milestones in cycling step by step. The UCI Continental division (D3 in the world) was reached in 2008, before obtaining the Professional Continental (D2 in the world) license in 2011.
The team continued to grow thanks to its loyal partners Wanty and Groupe Gobert, culminating in success at Amstel Gold Race with Enrico Gasparotto in 2016, leading the UCI Europe Tour ranking (2016, 2017, 2018), followed by three participations at the Tour de France (2017, 2018, 2019). The structure directed the teams UCI Pro Team Circus-Wanty Gobert and UCI Tormans Cyclo Cross Team in 2020. After ten seasons in cycling’s second tier, Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert is ready to continue its evolution and join the UCI World Tour in 2021 thanks to the takeover of Continuum Sports
Jean-François BOURLART (General Manager Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux) :
« The past weeks were restless, but we're really happy with this confirmation of our World Tour membership. We largely reinforced our structure in order to fulfill the criteria of the UCI. We could rely on the good advice of Gavin Chilcott and Jim Ochowicz and the experience of a part of the riders and staff of Team CCC. The financial, sportive and organizational criteria were largely met, and we could defend our project at the License Commission. Our registration was validated! »
« I'm happy and proud for our loyal partners which always supported us and accompanied our project, like Wanty, Gobert Matériaux, Cube, Circus, Tormans, and all other members of our business club Want You Club. I'm even happier about the addition of Intermarché to the project we've been building for many years. This stage is essential for the development of our structure, both sportively and commercially. »
