Estonian Rein Taaramäe represented Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux for the National Championships during the time trial event this Thursday. Already four times champion of the discipline in the past, Taaramäe offered the first national title in the history of the team by completing the 31.3 kilometers on the outskirts of Valga, in the south of the country, with a time of 38:14 (49,1 km/h). He finished ahead of 24-year old Norman Vahtra by 43 seconds.
"It's a relief! Since the Giro, I have trained exclusively on the TT bike. Today's event was my objective for the month of June, because I wanted to offer this jersey to the team. This morning, I woke up confident, because I had intensely prepared for this race, and today I am happy to win. I also knew the competition very well, Norman Vahtra who finished second was part of my club and I have seen progress he made over the years. I will be there on Sunday for the road race, where it will be difficult for me. The course is rather flat and explosive, like everywhere in Estonia. There will be a gravel section of 200 meters at 5% as a point of attention, but above all, we will ride alongside the candidates for the championships of Latvia and Lithuania. I know that I will be in the spotlights but you never know, with the legs of the Giro and an ally of circumstance, it can work out."
