Paris-Camembert - Lammertink, 2nd, stays ahead of the peloton

Circus-Wanty Gobert-Tormans travelled to Normandie for Paris-Camembert (1.1, 22/09) without Belgian riders. A trio escaped after the start in Pont-Audemer. Later, Maurits Lammertink attacked from the reduced peloton in chase of the early breakaway. Together with Dorian Godon, the Dutch rider managed to resist to the peloton on this hard and hilly parcours. The 24 year old French rider defeated Lammertink in a sprint in Camembert.

Maurits Lammertink:
« With four riders, we closed the gap to the leaders. I remarked that Godon was the strongest, and I had to dig deep on the last climb to follow him. During the final 10 kilometer, we rode fast to stay ahead of the peloton. Usually I'm pretty fast, but because of my collarbone fracture I couldn't train my sprint well recently.  It's a pity to miss the victory, but as my breakaway companion was stronger, I can live with the result. This hard race with small roads and steep climbs was a perfect preparation for next week's classics. I'm confident, and it looks like the whole team is more than ready for it! »
